The Power of Unity

Writing this column on Inauguration Day—and at the start of what promises to be a difficult year in terms of economics—I can’t help but relate President Obama’s strident belief in the power of unity to several topics of interest here at Beauty Packaging.

Coty, which was voted Company of the Year: Excellence in Packaging, regards unity as its key corporate strength. In fact, CEO Bernd Beetz credits the company’s profitable climb to its more than 10,000 global employees, saying, “The company’s greatest success lies in its people. From marketing to finance, corporate to PR, factories and R&D, it’s the Coty family that is our greatest success—has and always will be. With our creative, innovative, out-of-the-box talent of the Coty family, as a company, we stand out against our competitors and continue to experience success.”

While researching this article (p. 13), I spoke to many Coty employees, all who echoed Beetz’s sentiments. Each contributed enthusiastically, proud of their company’s accomplishments. “This is the place to be,” one high-level marketing executive told me.

It is this sense of unity that Coty embraces as it continues to take risks and create knockout packaging. And risk takers, said President Obama in his Inaugural Address, are the ones who take us into prosperity and freedom.

At Beauty Packaging, we have announced the expansion of our own “family,” with the addition of our Board of Advisors, and have now arranged for many of them to speak as a group at Luxe Pack NY on May 21. Together, these high-level industry executives will present attendees with a mass of knowledge more expansive and far-reaching than any single authority could provide on his or her own.

I hope you’ll join us at this special event—and please check our website at nitesh_bp.rodpub.com—for details on this exciting session, as well as online exclusives and additional news and images.

Working together can doubtless bring new opportunities for all. In fact, President Obama has already, though unwittingly, provided at least a couple in the beauty packaging arena. Coty created a trendy CK One package, which emphasizes the “We are one” message, and just yesterday, I received word of a new cosmetic launch in celebration of our 44th President: O Balm ah! restorative balm for smoothing and soothing skin.

We hope you enjoy this issue,
